Monarch on the Merrimack is the largest single residential geothermal
heating and cooling project in the United States. Geothermal
exchange, also called geoexchange, is the most efficient and
environmentally-friendly way to heat or cool buildings, according
to the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department
of Energy.
To homeowners, geothermal energy offers lower utility
bills, improved comfort and increased safety. Geoexchange
is extremely efficient:
because it move three units of heat for each unit of electricity
that powers the system, it reduces utility bills by 25-50%
over conventional systems. Over the long term, savings are even
higher
because of the low maintenance costs associated with geoexchange
systems.
