How to fend off cute children who are trying to sell you things in a third-world country

Cómo apartar de los niños muy monos que están intentando venderle las cosas en un país del tercero-mundo.

Cuando nosotros a visitabamos a Guatemala, a los niños muy monos y muy sucios que intentaron vendernos las cosas inútiles para muy barato. Ellos son muy persistente y nunca sacar una contesta de no. Si se compra cosas, cincuenta más niños intentararon venderse, entonces es mejor comprar algunos solamente cuando no hay otros niños alrededor.

Estas algunas buenas ideas descubriemos hacer que los niños salen:

Primero, dígales que usted no tenga ningún dinero. Pero esta nunca trabaja.

When we were in Guatemala, we were often approached by really cute and dirty children who tried to sell us useless things for very cheap. They are very persistent and do not take no for an answer. If you give in, you will suddenly be surrounded by fifty more children, so it is best to only buy something if there are no other children around.

Here are some of the best ways we discovered to make the children go away.

First, try to tell them you have no money. But this never works.

When they get bored of that game, they will try to sell you something different, like a doll magnet. If you are at a cafe, which is very likely, pick up the salt and say "you want some salt?" They will look at you like you are crazy. Insist that they want the salt. When they refuse, pick up a napkin and try to give them the napkin. Then try to give them some coffee. Try to give them some sugar. Keep giving them things until you run out of items on the table, and then go back to the salt.

The children will find the whole experience very funny and will leave you for a short time, but they will return. If you are nice, you can repeat this whole process again. If you are mean, you can just ignore them. Or, if they are cute enough, give them some candy.

A really important thing to remember is, never give them beer. They will take it!
